Fridge appliances come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Plenty of choices are good for the consumer, but you must know something of the different variants to make the most suitable purchase.
Freestanding Fridge
The freestanding fridge comes in many styles. Some of them have the fridge at the top with the freezer below it. In most cases this variant is larger than those with a freezer at the top.
Depending on the model, it may or may not come with an icemaker. Almost all freestanding fridges feature adjustable shelves. The handles may be on the right or left.
Some freestanding fridge appliances can run on LP gas. If there is a power outage in your area, you can run the fridge on gas. This will allow you to keep the food fresh and chilled.
Side by Side Fridge
These refrigerators have French door styles. The freezer, like the fridge, is vertically set. As the name implies, the freezer and the fridge are side by side. Each has separate doors and handles. The dimensions are half that of a single swing fridge and freezer.
This makes it ideal for small apartments or kitchens with limited space. Due to the vertical alignment of side by side fridge appliances, the shelves are smaller for each section. The food is stored in the shelves.
These appliances also have crisper drawers near the bottom section. Usually the refrigerator is larger than the freezer. Some models also come with pull-out shelves.
Bottom Freezer
Bottom freezers are available in different styles. The French door style comes with double French doors for the refrigerator. The refrigerator part is set at the top while the freezer is at the bottom.
Some models are made like a single door refrigerator. Several models open using a swing door. However there are some that work like a drawer. This tends to be more attractive to consumers because they take less space.
Top Freezer Fridge Appliances
With these models the freezer is at the top of the fridge. Under the freezer is the food compartment. This design remains one of the most widely used in the world. The freezers here are smaller than the refrigerator part.
However they tend to be more affordable than side by side fridges. A lot of them come with icemakers and water dispensers. Like other appliances, the newer models are now more efficient in using power.
Choosing a Fridge
There are two main factors involved here: the price and the size. Set down a budget and get the largest fridge within that price range. The prices of these appliances vary depending on the extra features included.
You must also think of how energy efficient they are. The initial cost may be low, but you may find your power bills going up. This could very well end up costing you more in the long run.
When choosing fridge appliances, select the one that has the features you need and can afford. As stated, the cost and dimensions also matter.
